Ontario Invests in Quinte West YMCA Open Ontario Plan Creating Jobs, Speeding Our Economic Recovery

NEWS

July 27, 2010

Quinte West families can now swim, shoot hoops and work out at their new local YMCA.

Ontario contributed more than $4 million to build the new YMCA. About 32 jobs were created during construction. Today, it employs 12 full-time and 86 part-time staff.

Ontario invested in communities during tough times, which created jobs and helped keep the economy on track. Projects like the Quinte West YMCA are part of the government’s Open Ontario Plan and show Ontario’s commitment to active and healthy communities across the province.

The new YMCA features a 25-metre pool, full-size gymnasium, a child care area, a fitness studio and multi-purpose rooms. It also has a walking track and a therapeutic pool so that everyone can participate in activities.

QUOTES

— Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario

“This new centre is a huge hit with our families and it’s really promoting active living. I’d like to thank the City of Quinte West for working with Ontario to make this YMCA a reality.”
— Lou Rinaldi, MPP Northumberland-Quinte West
