FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN COMING TO 4 MORE NORTHUMBERLAND-QUINTE WEST SCHOOLS IN 2011 McGuinty Government Helping Prepare Children for Grade One

Four Northumberland-Quinte West elementary schools will open their doors for the first time to full-day kindergarten in September 2011.

The selection of 2011 full-day kindergarten schools is the next step toward the full implementation of the program by 2015-16. Local schools that will begin offering the program in 2011 are:

L’Envol, École
Brighton Public School
Hastings Public School
St. Joseph’s School, Cobourg

15 local schools will offer the program in 2011. There are already 11 local schools selected for the first year of full-day kindergarten that starts this September. Parents can visit Ontario.ca/EarlyLearning to find out which local schools will offer the program during the first year.

Full-day kindergarten is an important part of the government’s Open Ontario Plan. It provides kids with a strong foundation for future learning, so they can go on to postsecondary education and get a good job. Full-day kindergarten and seamless before- and after-school programs also help busy parents save time and money.

QUOTES

“I’m excited that our government is moving forward with the implementation of this innovative program. Full-day kindergarten will give Northumberland-Quinte West children a stronger start on their learning and is the next step in Ontario’s plan to improve education, create a stronger school system and build a well-educated work force.”
 – Lou Rinaldi, M.P.P., Northumberland-Quinte West

“We are taking a responsible and measured approach to implementing full-day kindergarten. By expanding this program to up to 50,000 children in 2011-12, we are giving more children and their families the opportunity for a seamless day of learning and play.”
— Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Education
