WEETABIX IS AT THE TABLE TO
PROMOTE LOCAL FOOD
McGuinty Government Supports Local Food Marketing
Ontario is supporting regional marketing efforts for Ontario foods and strengthening the economy by encouraging more residents and businesses to buy locally grown food.
Weetabix of Canada is working with the Grain Farmers of Ontario to make more consumers aware of the fact that Weetabix is a 100 per cent Ontario grown and manufactured product. Between November and January, the company will mount a multi-media promotion across the Greater Toronto Area, including in-store sampling events, radio and billboard advertising, and branding the people-powered 'Eco-Cabs' in downtown Toronto. The Province is contributing $50,000 to the project.
The four-year Ontario Market Investment Fund program has invested more than $4.75 million in 94 projects to date. The program helps develop economic opportunities through trade events, marketing campaigns and industry research initiatives that promote Ontario foods. It is part of the McGuinty government’s enhanced investment in ‘buy local’ initiatives.
"This grant allows Weetabix to make sure consumers know that the products they buy are grown in Ontario. I applaud the efforts of Weetabix to help consumers make informed choices when deciding what they put on their families’ tables.”

"The strong support communities across Ontario are showing for promoting and buying local food is very good for our economy, for farmers and for the environment.”
- Carol Mitchell, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
“The OMIF has been extremely supportive and has played a key role in helping Weetabix inform consumers about our partnership with the Grain Farmers of Ontario, and our use of Ontario wheat in our signature Weetabix cereal. We have been a strong supporter of local farmers since 1978. Whenever possible, Weetabix will continue to use crops grown close to home to provide Canadian consumers with healthy, whole grain cereal choices.”
- Jeff Bakker, VP of Finance for Weetabix Canada
