More Experts Agree Open Ontario Plan for Jobs and Growth the Right Approach

March 25th – Experts from all sectors agree that the Open Ontario Plan will create jobs and protect public services while, responsibly eliminating the deficit caused by the global recession.

Len Crispino, President and CEO, Ontario Chamber of Commerce: This government showed great vision last year by taking large steps towards modernizing our tax system and we're pleased that they are holding the line on those reforms.

Ian Howcroft, President, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Today’s budget reflects the implementation of some bold and positive steps that were announced last year, relating to the HST and reduced tax rates.

Sam Hammond, President, Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario: We commend the government for its commitment to the welfare of young children. The confirmation of funding for the full-day kindergarten program is a courageous step in today's economic environment, but it will pay a lifetime of rewards, not only for children, but for communities and the economy.

Jacquie Maund, Coordinator, Family Service Toronto Social Reform and Ontario: I’m very happy that the government has made an investment to protect our childcare system. It’s very important for low-income families because these parents cannot work or seek employment without the childcare system.

Mary Marrone, Income Security Advocacy Centre Director of Advocacy and Legal Services: The creation of a new program indicates government's acknowledgement that people with special dietary needs must have additional support.

Linda Franklin, President and CEO, Colleges Ontario: This budget recognizes and responds to much of what colleges need to meet the increasing demand for a career-focused college education… Postsecondary education is critical to the future success of Ontario's workforce and economic competitiveness in the new knowledge economy.

Dr. Suzanne Strasberg, Ontario Medical Association President: We are proud of what has been accomplished over the past decade and we look forward to continuing our discussions with the government to create an even more comprehensive system that will improve patients' access to quality health care and delivers the best outcomes for patients.

Rick Perciante, Acting CEO, Canadian Cancer Society: The Canadian Cancer Society applauds the Ontario government moves to ban flavours in tobacco products. By restricting flavours in tobacco products, the government has taken an important step towards preventing future generations from the tobacco industry.
